The Avocado fruit - also known as alligator pear or butter pear, likely because of its shape and texture, is a member of the flowering plant family called Lauraceae.

Scientifically, the Avocado tree is known as Persea Americana and most probably originated from South Central Mexico. Avocados are the Aztec symbol of love and fertility because they perform better when they are cross-pollinated and they grow in pairs on trees.

There are over twenty different ways in which we can eat avocados, apart from the obvious ways of just eating them as they are. They can be used as dips, seasoned and eaten, or used to make pancakes and smoothies. They can also be used to make sauces for pasta or used to make cocktails.

This superfood is as healthy as it is delicious. Avocados are rich in Vitamin E and Vitamin C which are both great for the respiratory system. Avocados are also rich in vitamin D, which may protect the respiratory tract and are great for boosting the immune system because they are rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
